    join our beginner knitters club!


    mondays from 11:30 to 12:30 and wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30

    class fee: sessions are $20 each when purchased individually or $15 each when purchase in a set of 5.

    student skill level: absolute beginner

    class description: club members can attend any session and can attend multiple sessions per week but each session will be a credit off their total. For example if you want to come to the daytime session and then the evening session in the same week, then 2 credits will be deducted from your balance. If you skip a week, then you will not be charged for the credit. you must reserve a spot for each session you want to attend and if they reserve a spot and don't come, then we will deduct a credit for the missed class (someone else could have had the spot).

    students will learn: you'll knit a wool hotpad first. it's a great starter project and can be finished in about a week. when you purchase a packet of 5 sessions ($75), you will get a free starter kit - set of needles and ball of yarn - specific to your first project.

    after you finish your first project, then you will step up to level 2 and  a ribbed scarf. for this project you will need to purchase 300 yards of worsted weight yarn from the YARN mart but you will be able to use the same needles that you used for the hotpad.

    level 3 is a basic hat with a ribbed brim. you will learn to knit in the round and how to increase and decrease. finally with level 4, you will knit a simple pair of fingerless mitts with thumb gusset.

    once you have finished all 4 levels you will get an "i learned to knit at the YARN mart" tote bag!

    min/max number of students: 15 spots available per session

    after you finish your first project, then you will step up to level 2 and a spa cloth, learning the half double crochet stitch and the double crochet stitch. for this project you will need to purchase ONE hank of classic elite yarns PROVENCE yarn from the YARN mart but you will be able to use the same hook that you used for the coaster.

    level 3 is a scarf or cowl (your choice). you will learn how to make the shell stitch as well as to skip stitches. finally with level 4, you will make a granny square blanket and learn how to work in the round, change colors, and work in chain spaces vs stitches.

    once you have finished all 4 levels you will get an "i learned to crochet at the YARN mart" tote bag!

    building blocks

    student skill level: beginning (knows how to cast on stitches, knit, purl, and bind off stitches)

    class description: build your knitting skills one square at a time!“building blocks” is a series of 12 fun patterns that will build your knitting skills. at the end of the series, the knitter is rewarded with an abundance of knitting know-how and 12 beautiful squares to assemble into a sampler afghan, baby blanket, pillows or anything limited only by your imagination!

    students will learn: starting with simple knit and purl stitches, your confidence will grow as you progress through several major knitting principles. each block focuses on new stitches and techniques in a sequential fashion that “builds” upon the previously learned skill.

    supplies needed: 1400 yards of worsted weight yarn (recommend: berroco vintage, cascade 220 superwash, spud & chloe sweater or classic elite liberty wool); (2) circular needles in US 9 or US 10; Building Blocks book

    building in color

    student skill level: advanced beginner (needs to know how to cast on, knit, purl, bind off and basic increases and decreases).

    class description: build your colorwork skills! learn to expertly manage multiple colors while creating a gorgeous sampler afghan. if you loved building blocks then this follow-up book is for you! many of the designs are timeless favorites, some are original creations, and ALL of them are deliciously fun! 10 colorwork panels combine to make a blanket.

    students will learn: instarsia, double ended knitting, short rows, knit below, make one purl, elongated stitch, mosaic, butterfly stitch, intarsia cable and tuck stitch

    supplies needed: 24 skeins of hikoo simplicity in 3 colors; US 6  24” circular needle; Building in Color book

    customfit clinic

    student skill level: advanced beginner

    class description: become a sweater knitter with a little help from CustomFit and Heather. this is a great class for the first time sweater knitter.

    students will learn: to knit a sweater using a CustomFit by Amy Herzog pattern

    supplies needed: yarn for sweater (amount to be determined after measuring and swatching); needles

    homework or prework needed: need to be measured and swatch before first class; must make an appointment

    class fee: $60 for 3 sessions (no makeup classes unless instructor cancels)

    student skill level: absolute beginner

    class description: learn the basics of crochet from a master! make a simple cotton face/wash cloth in the first class. then purchase yarn for your next project and make a scarf.

    students will learn: learn single and double crochet

    min/max number of students: 4 min/6 max

    supplies needed: 

    • Students will receive a H hook, a Learn to Crochet book and small ball of yarn for practice at the first class.

    • Students are required to purchase 400 yards of worsted weight yarn for class project.

    crochet 2.0: granny squares

    the 1970s with a modern twist.

    class fee: $55 for a 3-hour workshop

    student skill level: advanced beginner crocheter

    class description: learn the basics of the granny square technique and make a 4-color granny square.

    min/max number of students: 4 min/6 max

    class description: learn to needlepoint a wonderful raymond crawford seasonal cookie with elizabeth bradley wool and kreinik metallic threads.

    students will learn: learn the basics of needlepoint such as basketweave and continental stitches.

    min/max number of students: 7 slots

    supplies needed: all supplies included in the price of the class; optional supplies needed: good scissors, stretcher bars

    homework or prework needed: no prework

    needlepoint 2.0: fancy stitches

    class fee: $150 for 1 session (includes all supplies plus lunch)

    student skill level: beginner to beyond beginner

    class description: learn great fancy stitches as well as how to add beads to your canvases.

    students will learn: learn to follow a stitch guide; use different fancy stitches; bead application

    min/max number of students: 7 slots

    supplies needed: all supplies included in the price of the class

    optional supplies needed: good scissors, stretcher bars

    needlepoint 2.0: bargello workshop

    class fee: $75 for 1 session (includes 12x12 canvas)

    student skill level: beginner to beyond beginner

    class description: learn to work with color and create a funky pillow with bargello stitches

    min/max number of students: 7 slots

    supplies needed: students must purchase 3 colors of elizabeth bradley wool

    optional supplies: good, sharp scissors

    homework or prework needed: no prework

  • weaving 1.0

    class fee: $120 for 4 sessions (see loom rental information below) 

    student skill level: complete beginner

    class description: learn to weave! learn everyone you need to know to start weaving. and make a set of awesome coasters!

    students will learn: how to select yarns for weaving projects; how to warp a rigid heddle loom; how to weave a coasters; how to troubleshoot your rigid heddle loom

    min/max number of students: 6 slots per class (6 rental looms available)

    supplies needed: 

    • Rigid heedle loom

    • 2 skeins of Takhi Cotton Classic

    homework or prework needed: none

    loom rental: You can rent a 15” Cricket Rigid Heddle loom by Schacht Spindle Company from Chronicles of YARNIA, Inc dba the YARN mart for the BEGINNING WEAVING CLASS. The rental fee is $120 for the duration of the class. The rental period begins at the warping session and ends at the end of the last class. Weekly extension can be purchased for $30 per week if looms are available. Loom rental fee is non-refundable. If you chose to purchase a loom at the end of class, you will purchase a brand new loom from the YARN mart and receive 10% off the loom purchase price.


    weaving 2.0

    class fee: $120 for 3 sessions 

    student skill level: take a beginner rigid heddle table loom class at the YARN mart or other LYS

    class description: you’ve started weaving and now you want to explore the next steps. join leigh and learn what you can do next with rigid heddle loom weaving!

    min/max number of students: 6 slots per class

    supplies needed: 

    • Rigid heedle loom

    • Yarn appropriate for weaving (ask an YM employee)

    we have a wonderful group of master teachers who are more than happy to teach individual students or two students together as a private lesson.

  • class policies

    class registration policy

    payment is due upon time of registration. class fees are not refundable unless the class is canceled by the shop. 

    if cancellation is made outside of 72 hours of class start time, you will be provided with a store credit for use for any future purchase with the shop. classes with fewer than three students may be canceled or rescheduled for insufficient registration. 

    unless otherwise indicated, our classes are for adults only. your registration is valid for the dates listed in the description and may not be transferred to other class dates.

    classes fees are non-refundable but they are transferable. if you purchase a class and then discover you can't make it, you can transfer your spot in the class to a friend or family member. just let us know who is taking your place. you will need to make the transfer and transaction with your replacement. the YARN mart will not work as a go-between.

    class participation policy

    all materials and supplies used in classes at the YARN mart must be purchased from the YARN mart. we understand that knitting needles, crochet hooks and other notions will be used and you may already own them. you may use these. but it is expected that you purchase all yarn, canvases, threads and other materials from the YARN mart at the time the class is offered. rigid heddle weaving looms are the exception to the rule.

    no makeup classes will be offered unless instructor or shop cancels class for emergency.

    the YARN mart will cancel classes for inclement weather and will notify students by phone & email. we will also post to facebook.
